Bob has been a commercial trial lawyer for 41 years with Jackson Walker, L.L.P. based in Texas. He chairs the firm’s media law practice and for 20 years he also chaired the firm’s intellectual property litigation practice. A graduate of Stanford University and the University of Virginia School of Law, he has been included in The Best Lawyers in America in six different disciplines: Commercial Litigation; First Amendment Law; Litigation – First Amendment; Litigation – Intellectual Property; Litigation-Patent; and Sports Law. Texas media outlet Pegasus News once compared having Bob in the courtroom with being in the ring with Mike Tyson. At the same time, Bob has had a rich life in sports. He played rugby at Stanford University, and continued to play for the Dallas Harlequins until he was 36. He has been inducted into the United States Rugby Hall of Fame after previously being inducted into the Texas Rugby Hall of Fame. He was twice elected Chairman of USA Rugby and served a term on the United States Olympic Committee Board of Directors where he became a leading advocate for Rugby 7’s to be included on the Olympic program – which happened in 2016. He served for 4 years as the President of the North America Caribbean Rugby Association (now Rugby Americas North), and in 2011 he became a member of the World Rugby (then IRB) Council and the first American to be elected to the World Rugby Executive Board, where he has served for 13 years. He is also a past President of the Dallas All Sports Association, an organization that brings together the major sports franchises in North Texas to raise money for college scholarships.

An energetic and humorous storyteller, he has given speeches, lectures, presentations and roasts from Glasgow to Sydney, Yangzhou to Cape Town, and Seattle to Rio de Janeiro. He has spoken on numerous college campuses in the United States, including UCLA, Stanford, Columbia, NYU, University of Virginia, George Washington University, University of Texas, and SMU. He is a walking sports encyclopedia, and an insightful legal analyst and commentator. For 18 years, starting in 2006 and continuing to this day, he has written a regular column for SportsTravel Magazine (now totaling over 130 columns).

A collection of his first six years of columns was published in a book: Winners & Losers: Rants, Riffs & Reflections on the World of Sports. A second compilation of his columns is due to be published in 2025.
